Hi, it’s me, Behr Behr the squirrel patrolling dane here. We have a serious problem at my house. I try my hardest to make sure that the squirrels all know this is MY house, and only princess puppy danes are allowed here. NO squirrels allowed. Ever. Not even one. I don’ t want them anywhere near my food or toys.
Whenever I’m on my observation deck I’m watching the trees for those fluffy little rascals, unless I’m on the ground below trying to catch them, that is. Even when I’m resting on my outside bed I have to keep my eyes on the trees to make sure they don’t come on my deck and try to steal my bed. You never know what they’ll try next. By the way, I keep telling Dad it was the squirrels that bit the nose off of Mom’s bear on the deck, not me. So far he hasn’t fallen for that one tho. Darn. It was worth a try.
Excuse me, Mom, can’t you see I’m on duty here? I’m hiding below the plants so the squirrels won’t see me and I can sneak up on them. You’ll give me away with that silly camera and flash!
Anyhow, about 1 1/2 months ago, I saw Mom and Dad working on something real interesting. They took this old tire that was shaped funny and then covered it with funny stuff that looked like pictures of leaves and sticks and stuff. Hmmm. They put some stuff in the tire thing, and then hung it up in one of our trees. I was thinking, “Oh, I get it!! It’s a squirrel trap! This is great of Mom and Dad to help me catch the squirrels!!” The whenever I was out on the observation deck of my fortress I kept watching to see if we caught any yet. Since it looked pretty tricky with the camoflage leaf covering on it I thought we’d catch some for sure. I started dreaming of squirrel snacks and watching the trap. Yum.
Not long after, I started my sniffing class and was spending more time practicing that than I did watching the squirrel trap. I figured all of my sniffing practice would make me better at finding those sneaky little squirrels if they didn’t fall for the trap thing.
Then it happened. A few days ago I was taking a hard earned break from my sniffing practice, and was just kicking back on my deck enjoying the spring sunshine. I looked up at the squirrel trap and was horrified when I saw THIS….
How did that baby squirrel get in the trap, and why does he look like he’s happy about it? Quick!! Sound the alarm!!! Hey Mom, we got one!! Mom! We got a baby squirrel in the trap, hurry and look!
I ran in the house to get Mom or Dad, and when I came back the situation was WORSE!!! Oh NO!! This is terrible! Now there are TWO of those baby rascals!
What’s going on here? They are coming out of the trap unharmed! I don’t understand. I barked at them a whole bunch and they finally went back in the trap where they belong. Now maybe Dad will get me my squirrel snacks out of the trap. Drool drool…
I went back in the house and waited. Nothing. Well, maybe they’ll get my snacks later. I wonder if they make good squeaky toys? I’ll bet they do. Wow, squeaky snacks! Now there’s a thought.
The next day I went out on the observation deck to check on the situation again. Just when I thought the situation couldn’t get any worse, it did. This time there were 2 big adult squirrels AND the two babies, and all of them were just fine!
The big squirrel tails..
plus the babies (one was even so relaxed he was falling asleep!)
Note the one on the left. See his silly feet dangling down? He’s obviously not afraid of me. Doesn’t he know I’m part of the squirrel patrol?
Here’s the whole fluffy family..
So, I don’t know what I’m gonna do. It looks like the trap Mom and Dad put in the tree didn’t work, in fact, it had horrible results! These squeaky rascals just turned the trap into a squirrel house, and they seem quite happy about it, too. I am NOT happy about it. They sit up there and peer down on me, and I’m pretty sure they are smiling at me from that little nut house of theirs.
♥ Behr Behr, still waiting for those squeaky snacks to come down out of their tree… Drool drool.

Yikes! I’m getting behind on posting my awards!
This one is the “I love blogging” award (I think). It’s from my dane sized lab friend, Moose. I think it’s so “wild” that his name is Moose and mine is Behr Anyhow, THANK YOU, Moose!
This award is given:
- As a dedication for those who love blogging activity and love to encourage friendships through blogging.
- To seek the reasons why we all love blogging!
- Put the award in one post as soon as you receive it
- Don’t forget to mention the person who gives you the award.
- Answer the award’s question by writing the reason why you love blogging.
Mom’s answer: Like Moose’s mom, I started this blog just to keep friends and family updated on our new pup that we had adopted. You can read the story of the accidental blog on this anniversary post. Since then, however, I have discovered an incredible world of fellow dog lovers who not only care a lot about each other, but share in the enjoyment of each other’s dogs. I have been so impressed by the way fellow bloggers actually help each other out in real life, not only with gifts and cards, but with other tangible expressions of care and friendship. I’ve been awed by the way some people in very difficult situations have received real help from bloggers who lived near them, by the letters of encouragement to those who need it, by the fun surprise gifts our dogs receive from their blogging buddies, and by the way dog bloggers unite for a cause when one arises. What an amazing group of people, and to think, we would have never found each other if not for the world of blogging.
Behr Behr’s answer: I like to read about the things other puppy friends find to get into. It gives me great ideas! Mom probably doesn’t appreciate that, but I do. It keeps her on her toes cleaning up the messes I make and gives her something to do. I’ve also noticed that when she reads your blogs to me (kind of like a bed time story at night), she begins to feel guilty about not getting out as much with me. Then she takes me more fun places I don’t mind the surprise cards and gifts from my friends, either Oh yeah, the contests are great because they give me some interesting activities to do with mom. I like the contests best when I win, just so you know. Hint hint
- Tag and distribute the award to as many people as you like. Here’s the award to pass on:
I’m passing this award on to my friends Miss Kylie (cute border retriever, if you ever need to retrieve your border for some reason)
and Lorenza (best dressed Doxie ever!)
and Dobby (tons of cuteness packed into a small package)

P.S. – The definition of spectacle is “something exhibited to view as unusual, notable, or entertaining ; especially : an eye-catching or dramatic public display. “
I guess since I’ve made a spectacle of myself at times, that makes me a spectacled Behr after all !
Minnie Moo has a fun little game going on over at her blog. Here’ s my cute little face for the contest.
I’m gonna let you in on a little secret. I’m really Obi Wan Ken Behr Behr. It’s rare to even see me because I hang out in the forest and hide from Dark Fader. Fader has this weird thing about trying to fade everything that is black so he can be the darkest black of all. Don’t ask me why. I suppose it’s his dark side coming out. Fortunately, I can usually hear him coming because he breathes funny.
I do have a companion named Zuke Pie Stalker, who always brings me great snacks. That’s why he’s allowed to know where I’m hiding in my secret forest hideout. I never turn down an opportunity for foodies! Zuke travels in this weird car converted into a spaceship. It’s called the Millennium Falcon, and it’s really just an old Ford Falcon from the 60′s that he bought in the year 2000, so he added the name “Millennium” to it. Makes it sound snazzier that way, I guess. Zuke and I have lots of fun running around in the forest together.
Sorry, that’s all I can tell you about my role as Obi Wan Ken Behr Behr, ’cause the rest is a big secret. Shhhhhh.
Ok, got to switch back into my decoy “Behr Behr mode” again.

p.s. – MAY THE FOREST BE WITH YOU!!!
Continuing my story about my first ever beach camping trip….
The first night while I was asleep in the human crate/portable house thing, Mom and Dad were in the next site hanging out with more of our family. While they were gone, a raccoon came into our campsite and stole all of my foodies. No kidding. I wouldn’t joke about something as serious as that!! The next morning I had to starve until Dad found a store that had my kind of food. Whew! That was awful! Here’s a picture of what the raccoon did to the bag my foodies were in…
While we were there, I got to go on some fun hikes.
One time we hiked 5 miles, just to see some strange animals that just slept all day. They looked like a bunch of silly logs on the beach, if you ask me, and I didn’t even get to play with them. They were called Harbor Seals, and they came to this beach just to have their babies and sleep. How boring is that ?
I think the little seal that wanted to play with me liked me. Must have been the seal of approval
Here’s what they look like when they are awake. (not Mom’s photo)
Moving right along…
The best part of the trip was going to the beach that was FOR DOGS ONLY!!!
While we were there, I got to run wild all I wanted, play in the water, and chase after my toys. Wahooo!!!! I LOVE the beach!
Sometimes I ran so fast that when I tried to stop, my feet went flying up into the air, like this…
It was my first time ever seeing a water deep enough to swim in, altho that’s kinda hard ’cause it kept moving all the time. It was still running toward me and then away again like on the other beach.
Look at how much FUN I was having on the dog beach….
The funny noise my Mom made when filming this was because she felt something weird brush up against her foot while video taping me running. She looked down and saw this strange creature, called a Channel Island Sea Anemone. She’s adding a close up borrowed from National Geographic. (it’s the clear one) We saw quite a few of them. I think they look like a circle of worms all holding hands
I’m gonna miss camping on the beach and playing at the beach that’s just for us puppies. I sure am glad I got a home that takes me fun places like this. First the mts., then the beach to camp. I wonder where they’ll take me next????
