(If you haven’t read part 1 of this story, please do so here :Poisoned part 1 )

Boy was I SCARED being in that hospital all by myself! I was super sick and Mom and Dad were nowhere around to hold me and tell me it would be ok. 😦 I just wanted to go home to my own bed and family.

The hospital place did all kinds of scary things to me and they didn’t even remember to feed me. Totally mean!! Sometimes I would cough and choke until I couldn’t breathe.

FINALLY Mom came for me and we went home. Unfortunately, I had to go back again because my lips and gums were turning blue. Is blue really a bad thing?

I had to take some yucky medicine to help heal my throat and I couldn’t run anymore without trouble breathing. Since I LOVE to run (even zoomie runs in our house), this was depressing. It was almost a year before I could run more than about 1 minute without the coughing and choking thing.

so depressed 😦

You can see the spot on my leg where I had something called ivy. (I.V.)

IVY marks

At least Mom and Dad took turns sleeping on the floor close by me, which was comforting. When I got really scared from they would pet me and calm me down!!

Mom did everything she could to help me get better and to live, and it worked. I’m really glad she did, and that I lived to tell you all about it!

♥ The (Phoenix) Behr Behr

Mom’s side of the story.. Behr’s difficulty breathing was such a concern that we took turns sleeping by her so we could listen in case she stopped breathing. We never knew when she would have to be rushed back to the vet again, and were on edge for WEEKS after this crazy incident. We also didn’t know if she would EVER be her normal self again,  and we felt so sad for her. It was obvious that the the choking scared her a lot. (us too)

During this whole ordeal, Behr apparently damaged her esophagus, causing ulcers on it. She was put on a medication called Sucralfate that helped her heal, but had it’s own set of complications. (Most medications side effects of some sort) The medication itself can cause difficulty breathing and vomiting, which only added to the problem. Besides that, I was concerned about the fact that this medicine is 21 % aluminum by weight, which is also a neurotoxin (as was the insecticide).

When she was done with this whole episode, my next project was to find out how to DETOX all of the chemicals used during the event and to restore her health. I’ll tell you more about what I did in the next post, since some of it applies to things our dogs are exposed to in their daily lives.

Behr’s mom 🙂

I’m so excited about this that it was hard for me to wait to show you!

My friends who have been reading this blog for quite some time are aware that one of my nicknames is the “Princess Puppy.” I really would prefer being called “her royal highness the Princess Puppy,” but so far my parents haven’t bought into that. (If you type the word “Princess” into the search box at the bottom of my blog, you can read some of the posts about my title.)

Anyhow, moving right along. Sometimes, like in the fairy tales, the person who is a princess didn’t start off as a princess, like the story of Cinderella, or even maybe Princess Diana. Maybe they wished deep inside their hearts that one day they would grow up and become one. [OK, for guys, that would be like the little boy who was ignored by his family or thought of as “stupid” by his friends growing up to the the CEO of a large corporation where everyone looked up to him.] That’s kinda how my story goes….

Once upon a time, like in 2008, there was a little puppy named “Behr Behr.” Behr Behr had a wonderful fur mom who adored her and fawned over her tenderly. Then her fur mom, who’s name, coincidentally is “Magic”, entrusted her into the hands of her new parents that don’t have fur. They saw the beauty in her right away, and even began calling her “princess” as a small pup. They bought her lots of toys, took her on trips, and had a fun time with her. She loved (loves) her home with them.

There was one little glitch, tho. Everywhere she went, others would say, “what kind of dog is that?? She looks so funny”, which hurt her little puppy feelings.

She would think, “Well I’m a princess Dane puppy, silly people. Can’t you tell?” One little girl even called her a deer because of the white tape on her ears. Deer?!? This was getting embarrassing! Then there was the time the vet taped her ears so that she looked like the flying nun and she had to wear a disguise everytime she went anywhere.

Well, the little princess puppy’s parents started taking her to different vets to see if anyone could help her with her funny ears. Each time they went to a vet place, they would walk out saying, “No, not this one. This is not the one we could trust with our little Behr Behr.” It’s kind of like the prince trying the shoe on one girl after another until he found the right fit and knew he had “the one.” Finally, they went to a place called the “Arrow Animal Hospital” and met the vet named Dr. Vinod Jayani (Patel). He was wonderful indeed, and they knew they had found the one for Behr Behr.

Dr. Jayani fixed her funny ears that only stood half way, and everything went absolutely smoothly. The whole staff treated her like the princess that she was, and she liked them a whole bunch. In fact, she likes to go there.. They are all SO NICE to her, and she got the “royal treatment” she deserved every time she went there. This doctor is amazing, and everything he does is top notch! He turned the Yoda ears into beautiful Dane puppy princess ears!!!! Yippeee!!

THANK YOU Dr. Jayani !!!!!! You restored my dignity and made me beautiful again!!!!

Now everywhere that the Princess Behr Behr goes, people say, “Oh, what a beautiful dane puppy!” And now Behr Behr can hold her head high and be proud. Don’t you love the graceful new look of her ears now?

As a side note: Dr. Jayani did not even know I was going to thank him publicly like this in advance, so I was getting the same wonderful treatment he gives all of his dogs. He has done some amazing re-crops as well as original crops. His office and staff are totally outstanding, and I highly recommend him to anyone.

Also, I was well taken care of so that I had minimal discomfort thoughout the whole ordeal. Mainly I had a lot of itching as the newly altered edges healed, but I had medicine to help with the itching even.

Now I’m mainly waiting for the hair to grow back on my ears, and I still have some tape so the tips won’t curl while they are getting used to their new shape. It was a little early to post the photos, but I couldn’t wait 🙂

♥ Princess Behr Behr, the one with beautiful princess ears now 🙂

I’m discovering more and more perks in my new home as the weeks go by. One of the really fun ones is that my mom and dad drive me around places in my own car. When they say the words, “Let’s go!”, I’m out the door in a big hurry, practically dragging them to our car. I didn’t know that it’s their job to drive me to fun places, and frankly having my own chauffeur and car is great!!!

The car is funny. I get my own seat where I sit all by myself. I love looking out of the window and watching things fly by. If dogs could laugh, I think I would! For some reason, our car rolls smoothly down the road, while other cars fly by real fast. Sometimes people even fly by. Probably the funniest one is when trees fly by in the air! Ha! That’s great! When it’s dark outside, there are lights flying by in the dark sky. I’m not sure what they are, but they are cool. It keeps me pretty amused, so that I just sit there and stare out of the window in amazement. That’s why I like going in the car. Well, also because we go fun places.

Except today.

Today they tricked me. We got in the fun car like we always do, but instead of going somewhere fun, we went back to the dog hospital. I was worried that they might leave me there again. It turns out that it was just so they could poke those sharp things in me that sting (which I hate!). I can not for the life of me figure out why vets like to do that, but they do. Anyhow, I didn’t have to stay. I just hope they don’t try to trick me like that again. I mean, if it’s my car and they are going to drive me around in it, they should drive me places that are fun, right?

I’m hoping they will see my blog and get the hint.

Mom and Dad, if you are reading this, notice how much I was looking forward to our drive today. Can you see the look on happy anticipation on my face? Now, is that the look I had when we got home? Nooooo, I don’t think so, and you know it. Let’s not go to that vet place again, ok? No more tricks! I was not laughing today. Your job is to drive me to places puppies like, remember?

I do still love you, tho, especially because you give me yummy food and lots of toys. Especially the food.  Definitely like the food around here.Yeah, so maybe you aren’t so bad after all.  Ok, can I have some  more of that food now?

I had a scary thing happen a few days ago. Boy was I ever sick! My mom and dad could tell I was REALLY sick ‘cause I didn’t even want to eat or drink. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know I LOVE to eat!!!!! So I had to go to the dog hospital for two days, but I’m ok now. I didn’t even have to have surgery. YAAAAAY! I didn’t want my tummy cut open! I guess I’m going to have to stop eating rocks and stuff since that’s what got me in trouble and sick. It’s too bad, too, ‘cause I think they’re yummy. If my parents would just feed me the whole bag of dog food instead of silly bowls of it maybe I wouldn’t want all the rocks. They just don’t seem to understand that, tho.

To celebrate, I got to go on a really special trip to a place called Ventura Beach. My parents had a REALLY SPECIAL surprise waiting for me there. I couldn’t even believe my eyes when I saw her, but I got to see my mom’s human mom there! I was so excited that I jumped up and down and licked her a whole, whole bunch and wagged my little tail till it was tired. She was there for a dog show with my cousins, so I got to see her at her motor home. It was really fun to play in the little yard she made by the motor home. My cousin won an award called the “best puppy” award. He beat all the other puppies of all breeds and got a special ribbon. He’s REALLY big and pretty!

Anyhow, I’m happy to be back. I’ll keep you posted on my new adventures!
